The Dark Ages may return — the Stone Age may return on the gleaming wings of science; and what might now shower immeasurable material blessings upon mankind may even bring about its total destruction. Beware, I say! Time may be short.”                    Winston Churchill

I was reading an exceedingly well written article in the Hindu Editorial about the Bhopal Gas Tragedy and I came across this quote. This idea is something that is becoming clearer and clearer with every passing day. Technology becomes better and bigger and subsequently the consequences of mistakes are becoming bigger. Some of the latest tragedies have caused unconscionable damage to the earth. The BP oil spill is a case in point. I don’t know enough about laws or what actually happened to decide on whether the high level executives are responsible for the tragedies. But one thing is certain. The corporate system is without doubt a highly vulnerable system. They are for every practical concern treated like a person. But they are not required to treat others with respect or kindness. They are concerned only with maximising shareholder wealth and with protecting it’s people.

The responsibility for making sure that long-term sustainability is ensured and that ordinary people or the eco-system do not pay the price for corporate greed lies with the Government. When the govt. or it’s agencies are weak or corrupt chaos will be the result. The people operating a corporation may be decent men. But they need to put their feelings aside and operate with the ‘higher ideal’ of profit in mind to be entrusted with the company by the shareholders. That looks like the perfect recipe for disaster.

The more serious reasons aside, some have come with interesting ‘other causes’ for the BP oil spill. If this isn’t dark humor, I don’t know what is.

“The Gulf catastrophe is in fact a result of Obama pushing a homosexual agenda and homosexual marriage. It is also a result of him trying to make the U.S. government sanction this foolishness,” said BCCN.com.      Science Blogs

Is there a spiritual, biblical connection to the BP oil catastrophe?    I don’t know. You tell me Jesus.

“April the 19th, Israel celebrates its independence in 2010,” Gallups says in narration on the video. “On April the 19th, Fox News reports that the U.S. will no longer automatically support Israel in the United Nations. The next day, on April the 20th, the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explodes. Coincidence? Or the hand and judgment of God?”              I think it is the leg and dickishness of God.

April 20th is also the birthday of Hitler.

It seems that some of these ‘findings’ were put out by ‘Bible analysts’. I have heard of market analysts, financial analysts and trade analysts. But a bible analyst sounds quite interesting. While a little entertainment is certainly good, crap like this distracts people from the real reasons for problems and delays concerted action.
