To live, to err, to fall, to triumph, to recreate life out of life.  James Joyce

See things not as they are, but as they might be.  American Prometheus

What I cannot build, I cannot understand.  Richard P Feynman

Scientists at the J. Craig Venter Institute created the first synthetic cell. They “watermarked” the DNA with a lot of cool stuff. The cool stuff included the above quotes, an explanation of the coding system, some names and a hidden URL that geeks can try and decode and go visit to confirm their find.

Storms are raging in the blogosphere and its interesting to follow them. The blokes at Answers in Genesis, Conservapedia and other crank sites are working overtime.

Oh, and this Conservapedia is actually a new phenomenon and I noticed it only very recently. There is also another site called Rational Wiki. They are supposed to be the opposites of each other. Conservapedia was started by Christian moms, paedophile priests, the 12 disciples and the Holy Spirit with the blessings of the Lord our God, alleged Designer of the appendix and the head of a giant child-raping enterprise.

Their reason for doing so was that they thought Wikipedia was becoming a mouthpiece of the liberal, immoral, homo bunch of Jesus hating socialists. As was expected, most of the people disagreed with them and this led to massive efforts at sabotage directed at their site. This led them to locking most of the pages down, blocking edits and new users and a lot of other very “un-wiki ” stuff. The result of all this is a very interesting site similar to uncyclopedia. Great fun and endless laughs!

Rational Wiki, on the other hand is a site devoted to rational discourse and openness. Not that much fun. Full of serious stuff.
